SCAN! (Skin Cancer Awareness Now!) in Appalachian community pharmacies

SCAN! (Skin Cancer Awareness Now) intervention is a community pharmacy-based skin cancer counseling approach that addresses the critical need to advise individuals of their skin cancer risk by providing personalized information and identifying strategies for management of their risk in rural areas.

Non-intervention responsibilities

  • Complete two surveys.
  • Survey timepoints: one at baseline, and another in one month by email or telephone.
  • Survey completion time is approximately five minutes.

Intervention responsibilities

  • Complete three surveys.
  • Provide information about skin safety at the pharmacy.
  • Survey timepoints: one at baseline, one after the skin safety information, and one in one month by email or telephone.
  • Survey completion time is approximately five minutes.

Pharmacies: Each pharmacy will receive $200 as an incentive.

Eligibility criteria: Study participants

  • Aged 18 or over who are able to read/ write in English.
  • Do not have a prior history of cancer.
  • Health equity populations include individuals who are rural, medically underserved, and older adults.
