It is my honor to welcome you to the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy. Our Department has a research-intensive atmosphere with exceptional faculty who are performing cutting edge research in the fields of nano-science, cancer therapeutics, medicinal chemistry and neuroscience. Importantly, the Department’s vision of research is to focus on completing bench work that can and eventually will be translated to the patient’s bedside. Our Department faculty have and will continue to be successful in obtaining extramural federal, state and industrial funding to complete our research mission. More details of departmental research can be found on individual faculty research pages.

Our Department research vision is closely aligned WVU Health Sciences Center, the WVU Clinical Translational Science Institute and the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center. This helps us to unify the School of Pharmacy with the Health Sciences Center and provide numerous collaborations with faculty from the Schools of Medicine, Dentistry and Nursing.

Our Department has trained thousands of Pharmacists and Pharmaceutical scientists in the areas of pharmacokinetics, pharmaceutics, pharmacology, medicinal chemistry and other related pharmaceutical science areas. The Pharmacists that we train will have an excellent scientific background to use as they practice in clinical pharmacy. Our Ph.D. graduates in Pharmaceutical Sciences are highly trained in the pharmaceutical sciences, and are in high demand for jobs within the pharmaceutical industry and or in academics. We have had many notable graduates from WVU take high level positions at the FDA, NIH, Pharmaceutical companies, and in Academia.

Please take the time to look at our website, and learn more about the remarkable research and teaching happening within the Department.
