WVU is currently in the process of renegotiating the software licensing agreement with Adobe. Due to dramatic increases in cost with this software, we need to verify use and only install it on computers where the software will be used. In the past, several Adobe programs were automatically included as part of the standard software image on PCs being deployed at HSC regardless of whether the end-user needed the software or not.
Many users at HSC only utilize the free Acrobat Reader, used for viewing/printing PDF documents, and Flash player multimedia software. These programs will remain on all HSC computers. If these are the only Adobe software programs you use, no action is required.
If you currently use any other Adobe software, see example list below, we will need you to complete an Adobe registration form for each computer that requires access by May 1st. Completion of this form will ensure that the software does not get removed from your computer. Please note, this is a per machine registration, not per user/department. Please register your computer(s) by May 1 by visiting the HSC ITS website and clicking on “Adobe Request Form”. This link will direct you to the SOLE login page where you can fill out the form indicating the Adobe software you need to keep.
On May 20, the HSC plans to start removing this software from computers where it is not required in order to keep licensing costs at a minimum.
Adobe products that require registration:
- Acrobat Acrobat (DC, Pro DC, Premier, etc.)
- Other Adobe Creative Cloud applications
Adobe products that DO NOT require registration:
- Adobe Acrobat Reader
- Adobe Flash player
- Adobe Shockwave player
ITS has met with the departmental Computer Support Contacts (CSC) and provided them with more detailed information. If you have any questions, please reach out to your CSC.
Thanks for your assistance as we work to reduce unnecessary software licensing costs.
