The 2023 Legislature passed a law that will be implemented during the 2024 license renewal cycle for pharmacists regarding the Drug Diversion Continuing Education (CE) requirement. This law update only requires pharmacists to complete the Drug Diversion CE one time within one year after initial licensure.
*Therefore, if you have reported Drug Diversion CE to the WV BOP during a licensure renewal before 2024 you DO NOT need to report the Drug Diversion CE requirement in 2024.
*Licensees who are renewing for the first time and have never reported the 2-hour board-approved Drug Diversion CE requirement to the WVBOP are required to report it this year in 2024 at license renewal. The same requirement will be true for first time license renewals in future renewal cycles after 2024. (ex. If you are renewing your license for the first time in the 2026 renewal cycle, you will need to report completion of the Drug Diversion CE requirement within 1 year of initial licensure during the 2026 renewal cycle, but will not need to report it in future renewal cycles after 2026).
These 2 hours can be attained in a live format, or an online format, but must meet the criteria established. Please check the Live Activities link or the Home Study Activities link under "WVU School of Pharmacy Continuing Education Activities" for available live and online activities.
Below is a list of approved WV Drug Diversion Trainings through WVU School of Pharmacy. If one attended any of these sessions a WV Board of Pharmacy Drug Diversion number is required for the initial license renewal described above. This WV BoP Drug Diversion number is different from the ACPE Universal Activity Number associated with an activity. If you have misplaced the WV BoP Drug Diversion number for the program you attended, please contact the Office of Continuing Education at WVUSOPCE@hsc.wvu.edu or 304-293-5103.
