The West Virginia University School of Pharmacy left its mark on Match Day 2022 with a percentage rate above the national average for post-graduate year one (PGY1) residency placement. Eighty-seven percent of PGY1 applicants seeking residency through Phase I of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Resident Matching Program obtained a match. The latest numbers rank the School of Pharmacy in the top 9% of the nation’s pharmacy schools for PGY1 residency placement.
Twenty-six graduates of the School of Pharmacy are headed to hospitals and health care systems in Florida, Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.
Pharmacy Match Day is held each year in March. The Match provides an orderly process to help applicants obtain positions in residency programs of their choice and help programs obtain applicants of their choice. Similar matching programs are used in many other health professions, including medicine, dentistry, psychology, podiatry, optometry and others.
ASHP is responsible for establishing the rules and monitoring the Match implementation. National Matching Services Inc. carries out the administration and conduct of the Match on behalf of ASHP.
