Dr. Khalid Kamal, professor and chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical Systems and Policy at the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy, is currently in Kobe, Japan, for a five-week academic engagement at the Kobe Gakuin University Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. While in Kobe, Dr. Kamal has been busy both inside and outside the classroom.

His course, Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research in the Japanese Healthcare System, introduces students to evaluating healthcare interventions from economic, clinical, and patient-centered perspectives—an important topic in Japan’s evolving healthcare landscape. He currently has 86 students in his class, mostly second and third-year students.

During his first two weeks in Japan, he participated in research seminars and faculty collaborations, visited labs and reconnected with alumni he taught in 2008. Later this week, he’ll travel to Tokyo at the invitation of Juntendo University to discuss pharmacy education in the United States and explore potential student and faculty exchange opportunities.

Dr. Kamal’s visit reflects the WVU School of Pharmacy’s commitment to global collaboration and advancing health outcomes research through international partnerships.
