MORGANTOWN, W. Va. — Dr. Stephanie Young, a Clinical Associate Professor at the WVU School of Nursing, was selected as the winner of the 2026 Service-Learning Instruction Award.
Each year, the Center for Community Engagement at WVU recognizes outstanding achievements during the Excellence in Community Engagement Awards. The Service-Learning Instruction award recognizes a professor who demonstrates a commitment to high impact teaching through service-learning, values relationships with the community and inspires students to make a positive community impact.
“I'm grateful to receive this award,” Young said. “I feel blessed to be working for an organization that not only encourages us to give back to the community but provides support to do so.”
Young was recognized with the award during a special celebration in April at the Mountainlair. She and others were honored for their sustained impact on the state of West Virginia through community engagement, civic action, advocacy, and continuous service.
“Dr. Stephanie Young exemplifies the very best of West Virginia University’s commitment to meaningful, reciprocal community engagement,” said Dr. Angel Smothers, Associate Dean for Community Engagement.
“Her work reflects a deep respect for community partners and a sustained dedication to translating scholarship into real‑world impact. This recognition from the Center for Community Engagement is a fitting tribute to her leadership, innovation, and enduring service to our communities.”
