The West Virginia University School of Dentistry recently awarded Gina Graziani, DDS, a promotion to the rank of associate professor. In addition to her role as an educator, Dr. Graziani serves as chair of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, associate dean for postdoctoral affairs and patient care provider at WVU Dental. Her promotion was effective July 1.
Graziani, a board-certified pediatric dentist, joined the faculty at WVU in 2019. She earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from WVU and completed advanced training in pediatric dentistry at the University of California, San Franscico.
A West Virginia native, Graziani is committed to improving oral health for the state’s youngest residents, establishing positive habits for the future. During her first year as a faculty member, she reflected on returning to the Mountain State.
“It feels good to come full circle,” she said. “It’s an honor to bring change, leadership and health back home.
“Access to oral healthcare in West Virginia is a huge barrier, especially for children. If we can recruit and train pediatric dentists and keep them in West Virginia, we decrease the dental disease burden in our children.”
To be eligible for promotion, faculty members must demonstrate significant contributions to the School’s mission through excellence in teaching, scholarship and/or service.
Graziani has provided valuable leadership to the Department of Pediatric Dentistry and the School since joining the faculty. Under her guidance, the department has expanded its clinical practice and launched a pediatric dentistry residency program, the first and only program of its kind in West Virginia.
WVU Dental is the clinical practice component of WVU School of Dentistry. WVU Dental providers include faculty, resident and student dentists.
