Dr. R. Constance Wiener, a faculty member in the West Virginia University School of Dentistry, recently co-authored a publication focused on inflation and its impact on public health related to social media narratives. Dr. Wiener serves as a professor and chair of the Department of Dental Public Health and Professional Practice.
Published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, the article “Exploring Inflation-Related Public Discourse Relevant to Social Determinants of Health Using Social Media Data” is a platform-specific case study. The findings suggest that social media may exacerbate community-wide inflation-related anxiety rather than fostering social support.
In addition to Wiener, researchers included Yifan Zhang, PhD, University of North Texas Health Science Center; Nethra Sambamoorthi, PhD, University of North Texas Health Science Center; Hao Wang, MD, PhD, JPS Health Network; Chan Shen, PhD, Pennsylvania State University; Sophie Mitra, PhD, Fordham University; Patricia A. Findley, DrPH, Loyola University Chicago; and Usha Sambamoorthi, PhD, University of North Texas Health Science Center and Temple University.
The International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health is a transdisciplinary, peer-reviewed journal.
