Award-winning advisor and champion for student interests Jennifer Clutter will join Michelle Poland as co-chair of the University’s Academic Advising Council beginning Aug. 14. 
Clutter, who recently earned the 2020 Nicholas Evans Professional Staff Advising Excellence Award, is a program coordinator in the WVU School of Pharmacy. She has served WVU for more than 25 years and currently advises incoming students to the School of Pharmacy.
Clutter coordinates the PHARM 191 and 199 programs, which provide Direct Admit Pathway pre-pharmacy students with career exploration activities, admissions process coaching to the PharmD curriculum, and study skills and test prep instruction for the Pharmacy College Admissions Test. Students in this pathway are advised directly in the School of Pharmacy by Clutter and honors faculty advisers.
“As Mountaineers, we go first, which means as advisors, we put the needs of our students first,” Clutter said. “Serving as Co-Chair of the Academic Advising Council allows me to contribute to the success of talented advisers across WVU campuses who provide our students with tools for their success. I’m honored to serve the University in this way.”
At the direction of the Office of the Provost, the Academic Advising Council is a multidisciplinary committee that provides professional development support for academic advisers across the WVU system. The Council also serves as the review and selection committee for the Nicholas Evans Awards for Advising Excellence.
Associate Provost Evan Widders, who oversees the Academic Advising Council, appointed Clutter as co-chair. She will serve for two years in this role and replaces outgoing co-chair Freddie McDonald, director of advising and recruitment for the Center for Learning, Advising and Student Success. Poland has served as co-chair since fall 2019 and will continue through summer 2021.
