Every October, American Pharmacists Month shines a spotlight on the essential role pharmacists play in improving public health and patient care. To raise public awareness, the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy and its American Pharmacists Association–Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP) chapter have planned a month of activities aimed at sharing valuable health information and advocating for the profession.

2025 WVU APhA-ASP American Pharmacy Month Events

  • October 2 (9:30 a.m. – Noon): Pharmacy Month Kickoff Brunch in the Pharmacy Lounge featuring food from Panera Bread. All SoP students, staff, and faculty are invited.
  • October 3 (Noon – 1 p.m.): Pharmacy Day Group Photo at the Pylons. All SoP students, staff, and faculty are encouraged to join. Be sure to wear your WVU Pharmacy apparel.
  • October 4 (1 – 3 p.m.): Mental Health Break with Adventure WV. Sign-up link was sent to student emails. Meeting location is 10 Walnut Street (Morgantown Adventure Outfitters). This activity is free. Options include biking, walking, and kayaking.
  • October 8 (3 p.m.) Members of APhA-ASP will administer a flu vaccine to the current WVU Mountaineer Mascot, Caid Kincaid.
  • October 10 (All day): National Student Pharmacist Day. Pharmacy students, play a guessing game located in the Pharmacy Lounge. Winner receives a gift card.
  • October 13 (Noon – 1 p.m.): Women in Pharmacy Day. APhA-ASP students will partner with Lambda Kappa Sigma to hand out cookies in the Pharmacy Student Lounge.
  • October 16 (Noon – 1 p.m.): National Pharmacy Technician Day. Student pharmacists will gather in Room 1905 to assemble goodie bags for pharmacy techs around Morgantown. Student volunteers will receive 1 community service hour.

    October 16 (Noon to 12:50 p.m.): APhA-ASP and the WVU Pediatric Pharmacy Association are co-hosting a Pediatric Pharmacists Panel in room 3007. Pharmacists from WVU Medicine Children’s Hospital will speak about various roles and unique challenges and opportunities they face in their profession.
     
  • October 23 (5:30 – 8:30 p.m.): OktoberPhest Mixer at The Co-Op Downtown (123 Pleasant Street Downtown). All SoP faculty, staff, students, and their guests are invited.
  • October 24 (Noon – 1 p.m.): Dean’s Hour Panel, “Pharmacy Pathways: Leadership Across the Profession,” in Okey Patteson Auditorium. Speakers to include School of Pharmacy alums LeeAnn Miller and Bruce Roberts, as well as Albert Wright, president and CEO of the West Virginia University Health System.
  • October 25 (2 hours before kickoff): School of Pharmacy Homecoming Tailgate. Students, faculty, and staff are invited. Details TBA—watch the SoP social media channels for updates.

This year’s theme, Caring for Our Communities, highlights the incredible dedication of over 700,000 pharmacy professionals and student pharmacists across the country.
