The West Virginia University School of Dentistry welcomed alumnus Dr. Thomas Stanley to the faculty, effective July 7. In addition to student education, he will provide patient care at WVU Dental, the clinical practice component of the WVU School of Dentistry offering care from faculty, resident and student dentists.

“It's an honor to be part of the WVU School of Dentistry, and I'm excited for the opportunity to care for patients while also teaching and mentoring the next generation of dental professionals,” Dr. Stanley said. “I'm eager to bring my passion and dedication to this role and serve the state of West Virginia, which I care for greatly. This position allows me to invest in the community that helped shape my path and contribute to the continued success of the University. I look forward to being part of its growth and impact.”

A West Virginia native, Stanley has been appointed assistant professor in the Department of Restorative Dentistry. Stanley recently completed the M.S. in Prosthodontics program at WVU, serving as chief resident during his final year. He also graduated from the WVU Doctor of Dental Surgery program as valedictorian and earned a B.S. in Exercise Physiology from the WVU School of Medicine.

During his time in the prosthodontics advanced education program, he served as a lab instructor for several courses, served on the Implant Planning Committee and worked part-time as a clinical instructor in the Dr. W. Robert Biddington Center for Dental Innovation and WVU Dental Student Clinic.

Stanley has completed Section A of the rigorous four-part American Board of Prosthodontics board certification examination, demonstrating extensive knowledge and skill. Prosthodontists specialize in the restoration and replacement of damaged or missing teeth.

He is a member of the American College of Prosthodontics, American Dental Association, West Virginia Dental Association, Wheeling District Dental Society and Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society.

“Dr. Stanley brings passion and excellence to dental education and patient care at the WVU School of Dentistry,” Dr. Shelby Alexander, assistant professor and director of the Prosthodontics program, said. “I have had the pleasure of watching him develop from a first-year dental student to a prosthodontist who holds the highest level of standards didactically, clinically and ethically. We are blessed to have him amongst our ranks, and I am excited to see how he will make his everlasting mark on dental education. He will not only maintain our level of excellence; he will elevate us all.”
