December graduate Dr. Luke Migliazzo is a reservist in the United States Marine Corps. and is working on a science fiction novel. He says one of the overlooked perks of pharmacy school is having all of his pharmacy friends living in one town at the same time. Congratulations, Luke!

What motivated you to pursue a career in pharmacy?

I was interested in how a substance could affect the body in different ways, so I chose pharmacy. I was pleased with it because a PharmD offers many different career paths.

What inspired you to choose WVU for your pharmacy education?

I moved around and lived in lots of different places growing up, but I liked Appalachia the best, so I wanted to return there. West Virginia is a great home, and Morgantown is always fun.

How has your experience at the WVU School of Pharmacy prepared you for your future career?

It gave me the tools to succeed in any part of my pharmacy career that lies ahead. People from my class decided on many different career paths, and it seems that each one has worked out well.

Is there a professor at the School of Pharmacy who has significantly influenced your journey? How did they make an impact?

Dr. Galvez was a great professor, and I think she is amazing for younger students. Then Dr. Cruickshank helped me so much in my later pharmacy career, on rotation, with residency and fellowship questions and exploring career opportunities.

What’s a fun or surprising fact about you that most people might not know?

I am an aspiring author and am in the process of writing my first science fiction novel.
