Dr. Hopwood

In collaboration with WVU Medicine, the Health Sciences Center is working to better understand and be more mindful of patients’ gender affirmations.

Students, faculty and staff are invited to a lecture from Ruben Hopwood, MD, Ph.D., a licensed psychologist with 14 years of experience working with and for the gender diverse community in clinical work.

The lecture takes place Friday, Feb. 14, from 10 – 11 a.m. in G-17, HSC North.

After attending the lecture, participants should gain a better understanding of the population as a whole, with a particular emphasis on:

  • understanding the basic vocabulary of transgender relevant terminology.
  • gaining knowledge and understanding of the overall population demographics.
  • gaining knowledge and a better understanding of health inequities and outcomes faced by these patient populations.

Hopwood is the founder and director of the Cambridge, Massachusetts firm, Hopwood Counseling and Consulting, as well as a visiting researcher at The Danielsen Institute at Boston University.

He previously served as the manager of the Fenway Trans Health Program, a pioneering clinical and training organization in LGBTQ healthcare.
