West Virginia University Health Sciences leaders recently traveled to Oman to strengthen global collaboration and participate in commencement ceremonies at partner institution National University of Science and Technology (NUST).

WVU School of Pharmacy Dean William Petros and Director of Global Engagement for Health Sciences Christopher Martin, visited Oman in early February. Dr. Petros was invited to address College of Pharmacy graduates, guests and university administrators, reflecting on his previous visit and the shared challenges and progress since that time.

“Our planet is a very different place since I last visited Oman in 2020, just before the initial surge of the COVID-19 pandemic,” Petros said. “COVID humbled our world, yet it demonstrated how quickly mankind can solve complex problems when we work together.”

The WVU School of Pharmacy and NUST have built a strong partnership over the past nine years, including a student exchange program that provides valuable global learning experiences. During the visit, Dr. Martin, who also serves as a professor in WVU’s Schools of Medicine and Public Health, met with university leaders to discuss current initiatives and future opportunities for collaboration across the WVU Health Sciences Center.

West Virginia University Health Sciences and the School of Pharmacy also congratulate NUST on recently receiving international accreditation for its Bachelor of Pharmacy degree program from the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education through 2028.
