Dr. Jon Wietholter has been appointed as chair of the Department of Clinical Pharmacy at the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy by Dean William Petros.

Wietholter joined the School in 2008 and served as interim chair since July 2024. He is a board-certified pharmacotherapy specialist with extensive clinical practice in internal medicine and also a professor in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy while additionally holding an adjunct faculty appointment in the WVU School of Medicine. Dr. Wietholter was named a fellow in the American College of Clinical Pharmacy in 2020 and has served in various positions for national professional pharmacy organizations.

As an active educator his primary instructional areas include health systems pharmacy, neurology/psychiatry pharmacotherapeutics, and travel medicine/global pharmacy practice. He developed and oversees an International Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience in South Africa for fourth-year WVU pharmacy students and has recently served as a Fulbright Specialist. In addition, he has participated in humanitarian efforts through Project HOPE, serving as a clinical pharmacist on mobile medical units following Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico in 2017 and Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas in 2019.
