WVU continues to transition to Zoom Phone to avoid deferred maintenance costs exceeding $1 million and better support a large workforce with many hybrid and fully remote staff.

While we haven’t shared many updates recently, a substantial amount of behind-the-scenes work has been underway. The WVU ITS team has been coordinating closely across units at the WVU Health Sciences Center and WVU Medicine, and working through licensing and information security requirements to safeguard PHI. These necessary steps will support a successful transition.

WVU ITS will begin reaching out to units across HSC in the coming weeks and months with specific information about each unit’s transition. Depending on the unit, this may include coordination with WVU Medicine IT to determine how individual phone lines will transition – whether they will move from the old WVU Cisco system to the new WVU Zoom Phone system or instead transition to the WVU Medicine system as part of this change. WVU Medicine will conduct their own migration, separate from the University’s Zoom Phone project.

Training opportunities will be announced as soon as they are scheduled. You can find more information about Zoom Phone, including a pre-recorded version of training and other resources, on this page in the IT Help Center

The two-year transition will continue throughout the spring semester, with anticipated completion by July 1, 2026.
