Three Minute Thesis winners

Congratulations to the winners of the 2022 WVU Three-Minute Thesis Competition hosted by the Office of Graduate Education and Life and to all the finalists for their fantastic presentations.

Danielle Mikolajewski, a plant science student from the Davis College, won the competition with her presentation on “Super Donor Transmission in Chestnut Blight Strains.”

Second place and third place went to Gregory Martin, an applied and environmental microbiology student from the Davis College for his presentation, “Forest Fires, Friend or Foe?,” and Gabriella Pishotti, an English student in the Eberly College for her presentation, “Survival Migrant Literature and its After-Affects” respectively.

Rudi Safarudin, a student in the Health Services and Outcomes Research program from the School of Pharmacy, received the People’s Choice Award for his presentation on “Opioids' Medical Dilemma: Powerful Painkillers vs. Cancer Risks Later in Life?”

The 3MT competition originates from the University of Queensland and challenges doctoral students to present their research topic and its significance in three minutes using just one slide. The 3MT competition develops academic, presentation and research communication skills, as well as supports the development of graduate students' capacity to communicate their research succinctly to a non-specialist audience.

The 3MT competition will return in the spring of 2023.
