West Virginia University School of Public Health Master of Health Administration program and the WVU Graduate Chapter of Upsilon Phi Delta will host a virtual Administrative Grand Rounds titled “Employing Social Media to Build Customer Satisfaction and Community Outreach” on Friday, April 10, 2026, from noon to 1:30 p.m. ET.

This session, moderated by Erik L. Carlton, DrPH, MS, CPH, FACHE, associate professor at WVU School of Public Health and ACHE regent for West Virginia and Western Virginia, will highlight the experiences of expert marketing executives from the local healthcare industry. The panelists, featuring Anthony Condia, chief marketing and communications officer, West Virginia University Health System; Elizabeth Pellegrin, vice president and chief marketing officer, Vandalia Health; and Sheanna Spence, chief marketing officer, Marshall Health Network, will share professional insights on effectively incorporating social media into community engagement and patient satisfaction initiatives in the healthcare industry.

About the Panelists

Anthony Condia | Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, West Virginia University Health System

Anthony Condia is chief marketing and communications officer for the West Virginia University Health System (WVU Medicine), West Virginia’s largest employer and a nationally recognized academic health system. A member of the senior leadership team, he oversees enterprise-wide marketing, communications, branding, and public relations across the multi-state system.

Since joining WVU Medicine, Condia has helped guide its growth into a $7-billion, 25-hospital network spanning five states. He created the WVU Medicine brand and developed the name and brand identity for Peak Health. His work has elevated national visibility, with coverage in 60 Minutes, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and Good Morning America.

Previously, Condia served as chief marketing officer for UC Health, helping launch the academic health system and restore the University of Cincinnati Medical Center’s academic identity. He is known for building award-winning teams recognized with multiple regional Emmys, Telly Awards, and Addys. He holds a bachelor’s degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Cincinnati and completed professional programs at UC Berkeley, Harvard Business School, and Chicago Booth.

Elizabeth Pellegrin | Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Vandalia Health

Elizabeth Pellegrin is the vice president and chief marketing officer for Vandalia Health, a healthcare system based in West Virginia with 17 hospitals, an academic medical center, and more than 220 outpatient locations in five states. She has extensive experience in marketing, crisis management, strategic planning, advertising and production, public relations, and market research.

Beyond healthcare, Pellegrin also has broad client experience in financial services, wireless communications, the arts, and government. In addition, she has practiced advertising and public relations in Washington, D.C. and Europe.

Pellegrin holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from WVU and a master’s degree in the science of management and health care administration from The West Virginia Graduate College.

Sheanna Spence | Chief Marketing Officer, Marshall Health Network

Sheanna Spence serves as chief marketing officer for Marshall Health and the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine. Since joining the organization in 2015, she held a series of leadership roles before being named chief marketing officer in 2022. As chief marketing officer, Spence leads strategic communications, marketing, and public relations initiatives for both the academic and clinical enterprises, encompassing advertising, publications, media relations, digital engagement, and brand management.

Before her time at Marshall, Spence spent nearly a decade in communications, development, and community outreach with Mountwest Community and Technical College in Huntington and The Education Alliance in Charleston.

A Huntington native, Spence earned a Bachelor of Arts in journalism from Marshall University and a Master of Science in journalism from Ohio University. She is a 2023 graduate of Leadership West Virginia, a 2018 graduate of Leadership Putnam, and serves on the Putnam County Chamber of Commerce board of directors. She is an active member of the Association of American Medical Colleges Group on Institutional Advancement and the West Virginia Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America. She lives in Teays Valley, West Virginia, with her husband and two children and is active in her community and church.

Erik L. Carlton, DrPH, MS, CPH, FACHE (Moderator) | Associate Professor, WVU School of Public Health

Erik L. Carlton, DrPH, MS, CPH, FACHE, is a tenured associate professor of health policy, management and leadership at the WVU School of Public Health and director of the Appalachian Health Workforce Institute. An innovative and accomplished academic leader, Carlton is board-certified in both public health and healthcare administration. He has nearly two decades of leadership experience in both the private and public sectors; and he has consulted numerous hospital systems, health departments and healthcare organizations, as well as several universities and other large businesses.

His current research focuses on psychological safety with an emphasis in both healthcare and higher education. His previous scholarship focused heavily on the integration of healthcare and public health systems and on university-community relations. Carlton is the author of four books and dozens of peer-reviewed papers and presentations. He has a strong presence in global healthcare leadership development, having lived in both France and China and having trained clinical and administrative leaders from over 70 countries.

Carlton holds a Doctor of Public Health in health services management and a Master of Science in family studies with an emphasis in marriage and family therapy, both from the University of Kentucky, as well as an executive certificate in public leadership from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government.
